Weekend Decorating: how to display your china properly

Ever wondered how to display your perfect china to make it look amazing?
Well, I have just the solution...

get a gorgeous wallpaper and recover your china cabinet like maison decor has done so beautifully...
I also really enjoy this photo above, because it shows stacked plates and one on its side to show the beauty of the dish. It's the perfect balance of storage and display.
Even just a dark paint on your cabinets could do the trick for extra bold showcasing.

Now do you see the impact of wallpaper?

Weekend Decorating: DIY decorating secrets for your beauty!

The weekend is already here again...
and I have several exciting things in store. My sister and best friend is coming in town and I get to show her the beauty of my new city. Speaking of beauty, getting all dolled up is part of the weekend fun.
So, with that in mind, I want to make sure all my things are beautifully displayed for us.
On my dresser are pretty trays and bowls that hold my products, they make everything look so glam.
I just love this idea for nail polishes. I love to keep mine out on display because of the pretty colors.
Always add candles and flowers for more feminine pleasure.

curtain contemplations...to cornice box or not?

With a crazy weekend and week ahead of me, I am in a super hurry to get my apartment decor all put together...

I have a wedding this weekend, guests that I am hosting and so many events next week for fashion week, my calendar is looking like a coloring book. Sigh.
So one of my personal necessities is to finish my windows (they are the eyes of the home, no?)
I have beautiful drapes that hang and cover my windows, but I am absolutely in love with the tailored look of beautiful cornice boxes to match. So polished and glam...which must mean I need to have one too. I think my favorite are the ones with really fabulous trim and detail, don't you guys agree?
a gorgeous mary macdonald room. die!
I especially love this flowy valance...

The Art of Living: how to decorate with mirrors

I love decorating with mirrors, but I find that I am bored of just a simple mirror all alone on the wall. I like panache and extra effort when it comes to styling them. There is something about just a little something extra, that really can take your home decor to another level. It's interesting to see how adding mirrors to my own apartment brings a new dynamic and new dimensions. I am inspired to create even more creative displays with mirrors...
I also really love the look of gatherings of mirrors, they are highly effective for any smaller room as it creates a dramatic look AND as we all know, mirrors give the illusion of more space!
There is such charm about leaning mirrors too, never underestimate the power of unstyled style.
I love mirrors in a bigger grouping of items as well.
This is a little something I am dying to try in my new apartment. A vertical line of mirrors in between windows, this is sure to maximize some natural sunlight. I love it.

bliss in the kitch' {delightful and charming meet}

After a long Sunday and an incredibly fun blogger dinner party (more details to come) I am ready to take on  this week as I have a full schedule. As I awoke this morning and headed to my kitchen for coffee, I realize just how important mornings in the kitchen are.
For some reason, this particular kitchen just warms my heart. I love love love the collection of white vases and art on top of the cabinetry. This empty space is usually overlooked but I love what they have done with it. So simple...so charming. Open shelving and beautiful displays are the delightful and charming-ness of a kitch.'

too cute!

DIY decorating secrets from a beach-y bohemian pad...

Many of you know that my affections belong to southern california and that beachy lifestyle. I fell instantly for this adorable apartment. So, I took a few notes on her decor style...
1. Collect a bunch of white vases in different sizes and set atop your fireplace mantle. Fill them with bunches of the same blooms, and your mantle will pack some decorative punch!

2. Display your jewels on sidetables (not just your dresser or vanity) on pretty feminine dishes and combine with pretty trinkets and treasured magazines to make it look like a styled set. This gives you that  boutique display vibe that we all know and love.
3. DIY artwork... stencils, canvas and pretty color paint. Pick a favorite quote, saying or mantra for an everyday pick-me-up.
oh and don't forget to display your prettiest shoes for more happiness...

chic little bathrooms...

Now that I have been putting the finishing touches on my own apartment, I have a pretty boring bathroom and I am dying to spice it up a little. I love character in a bathroom, but my bathroom fixtures are so modern that it is hard to add "personality". I need to stick with the modern hotel chic vibe.
So, I am just jonesin' for some bathroom chic-ness...
hot pink and white stripes.....oh yes!

Happy fourth of July...God bless America!

I absolutely LOVE America (my grandmothers name is america too, so cute)! I truly feel so blessed to live in such an amazing country. So, I do believe in taking advantage of celebrating and going all out. Especially when having a backyard bash. There are so many ways to be creative... My favorite part of the 4th, well the FIREWORKS, of course!

Hope you all have a wonderful Independence Day!

Decorista daydreaming...longing for a canopied bed

Today is moving day! Meaning everything is getting dropped off, painters are painting and organization mode is in full swing! I can't wait to show you all photos but for now...relish with me in the gorgeousness of canopied beds. I am just crazy about the delicious flowing fabric down the edges of the bed. I think it makes a bedroom that much more cozy and romantic. Unfortunately, because new york is just "like that", architecturally a canopied bed will not work in my bedroom. Yes, I was majorly disappointed because I had my sights set on one in particular. For the time being I just get to admire the gorgeousness of the ones in photos. A girl can dream, right?

The power of molding

Sorry for the lack of posts this weekend, there have been some crazy things going on in my world this week. I never want to let you guys go days without decor inspiration, so I appreciate your patience.
Having said that...part of what I have been doing is getting serious on my boutique retail project in Nolita. What we are doing next...MOLDING.
Molding is a must, especially for an older building. It can give such a sophisticated and polished look. I'm really in love with these beautiful ways you can use molding to make an impact.

needing. wanting. loving. A seriously cool TV console

Okay, so sometimes I go a little crazy for things that are bold, bright and beautiful. Like this fabulously chic  entertainment console. I spotted the beauty at Kyle's blog from this fabulousness etsy shop. It made me seriously consider great ways to decorate around ugly tv's. This is definitely one way to do it well!

Actually reminds me of my favorite piece from the Woodson and Rummerfield Chasens collection.
I am absolutely bonkers for the thing.

Bliss in the kitch' {stylish shelving situations}

Feeling fabulously convinced that proper storage in a kitchen is more than necessary. I love how this black wall of shelving sits perfectly next to a bright and white little kitch'. Complete with an island, industrial lighting and a very hip ladder, this kitchen space is more than meets the eye. While there is plenty of space for chopping and mixing, the space for all your storage needs is more than swoonworthy. My heart melts for really, really good shelving and storage.

Wallcolor Wednesday...working with white

As I am still on the hunt for the perfect place to live in NYC, I keep running into to the realization that so many people here have to rent. The biggest downside to renting is the possibility that you are stuck working with white walls. Don't fret my pets, there is always a way around white walls and surprisingly you can still have a very chic space. Here, I will share with you my room inspirations with white walls. I must say, I am rather quickly falling for the charm.

Tablescape Tuesday: the skirted round table

Making your home a warm and cozy palace for your belongings is the ultimate domestic bliss. I have found that one sure way to make a lovely display piece for your most treasured items, aside from bookcases, are lovely skirted round tables. As you all know, I am loving layered fabrics lately and adding fabric to the tables in your home is the perfect way to achieve this look. My first choice is a fun zebra fabric or even a David Hicks pattern will rock your house, too.

There is something really invigorating about changing wall decor, it's an instant mood lifter. So this weekend, why not go to a local flea market, home decor shop or even your own closet and find some of your favorite things to display on the wall. Album covers, family photos, vintage art or even your favorite necklaces will suffice...Happy decorating!

Wallcolor Wednesday... multi faceted color

How fabulous is this mutli colored room? Reminds me a little of a global or exotic hotel that I'm dying to escape to. I love that there are 3 different colors of paint used here... its just so rich + saturated. I am all about bold colors + mixing it up lately. Which lead me to believe a little bit more in mixing wall colors, I am usually not a fan but these well done combinations are twisting my arm and have me thinking...
"I can work with that!"

Weekend decorating Idea: wall of fabric in the bedroom

Want to give your bedroom even more of a pick me up and that cozy-licious element?
Try adding a drapes behind the bed for an ultra romantic effect. I love the look of a canopied bed and most of you agreed. However, its not that easy to whip up a four poster number. Something you can try over the weekend though, is hanging some fabric panels behind your bed.
Instant domestic bliss! Happy Weekend decorating everyone!

I am actually drawn to walls of fabric no matter what room they are in...like this green room for example.
Eclectic, glamourous and so very lovely.

secret of domestic bliss #47... decorating with flowers

I don't know if many of you will remember this but remember the days when Laura Ashley reigned queen. I can remember as a young girl my mother decked out my bedroom with head to toe floral motifs.    I quickly found myself loathing floral decor...until recently. Is it just me or is the flower making a comeback? Lately I have been seeing beautiful floral motifs everywhere and layered up. Maybe its just that Spring is on its way and flowers are in full bloom! Either way, I am loving the ways of incorporating florals into decor. (like this room with blooms)Whether it be through art, wallpaper, fabrics, linens, or even just a simple bouquet...I am so ready for spring to be in full bloom!

If you have ever checked out Tricia Guild's work, then you will see what I mean, this woman is all about decorating with flowers. Her stuff is spot on!
