I recently celebrated my 8th year of being in business for myself anniversary. For years I have written posts called Entrepreneuress 101 because I have been so blessed by my beautiful business and I love to share all the things that I have learned along the way. I can remember the days when I couldn't even imagine the things I have experienced in my career and it's incredible how in just a short time the world has made being a business owner easier than ever before.
I've also noticed the insane amount of business advice now available out there today. Back when I was just starting out, there was nothing to turn to for advice, business strategies and people who had done it before. The internet was new, there weren't but 20 design blogs out there. It was such a different time. I assume most people just want to share what they have learned but I also feel now there are so many people claiming to get you to 6 figures but they have no proper business to actually show for it. It's just a crazy time out there right now.
I have even written my own book on blogging and created a masterclass to teach you everything I know about being a successful designer/decorator.
So here is why I am changing this corner of my blog from Entrepreneuress 101 to Blissful Business. It's because I have realized that while everyone is so adamant about the hustle, they have stopped taking the time for themselves to live beautiful lives. Putting down the phone because you are trying to be active on social media and connecting with the LIFE that surrounds you in real time. I have been in business for myself for so long, I don't really care about teaching strategies to a make certain amount of sales or tips for getting to 6 figures by Tuesday. I've been there, done that. I care more about encouraging you to build a beautiful business for yourself that makes your life feel more alive and a business stands the test of time. Most people quit, give up or try something different when they don't achieve their ultimate goals.
Building a beautiful life and business is about becoming a better business owner with every year, growing, learning about yourself and what makes you live your best life. It's not just about being in business, its about having a well balanced life that supports your business to be its most successful so that your life is really blissful. For the past year or so I have really been trying to navigate the art of living in bliss in all areas of life and for me, business strategy had to take a little bit of a back seat.
I was living a fabulous life in NYC, fulfilling all of my career dreams but at a certain point that luster wasn't really satisfying me any longer. I knew that it was time for me to expand my horizons, turn inward, nurture my growth and support myself to walk myself to a new chapter in my career. Bliss had always been a word I resonated with, in fact my blog name started out at 'secrets of domestic bliss'. As I grew older, Blissful Living became something that felt more authentic to me because I realized just how much your home is a reflection of your outward life. So many new ideas became my new truth and I wanted to allow my career to encompass all aspects of my life, not just my work in the world.
I knew I always had a calling to inspire people and it was recently that I realized, living life to the fullest with the most authentic expressions of myself, doing all that I desire was the only thing that would really inspire others. With my clients, I began to change the way I approached their home design and everything began to get better and more blissful. I was doing business not from an aspect of what I should be doing as a designer, but from a place that felt really authentic to me.
Today, I want to encourage you to just check in with yourself and where you are in your business. How does it make you feel? Are you doing things daily that light you up? Are you working in a way that feels true to your heart?
Think back to a time where you felt truly fulfilled or blissfully engaged in a task. How can you do that more to support your business?
