my love affair with elephants...

I love elephants. I always have. Ever since I was a little girl, I felt such a connection to the big beautiful species. I have collections of elephants from everywhere I have traveled. I even have the cutest elephant coffee mugs.
I recently read that elephants have been known to die of broken hearts if a mate dies. They refuse to eat and will lay down, shedding tears until they starve to death. They refuse all human help.
The moment I read this, I knew thats why I love this animal so much. Elephants are romantics at heart. I love that and what I love even more is when I see them in home decor. They are all over the magazines and photos. As I decorate my new NYC space, I am feeling the need to get another one.

That last shot with the elephant console is just gorgeous! Such a unique piece! I'm totally drawn to animals as well...the wilder the better :D It's all about anthropomorphism in design...brings out great life in still spaces...great collection!

Me too! Check out my latest post. I found a wicker elephant for a bargin (45$).

If you by a sidetable elephant be sure that it has its trumpet up. That means that the elephant is happy. According to Thai superstition an elephant who is dragging his trumpet is unhappy and will bring unhapiness to the home....

This is very true. Isn't that so amazing! I learned this in grade school, which is when I deemed them my favorite animal on earth. I even named my first design company after them 15 years ago (Green Elephant Studios). However, their recent over-popularity has me rethinking my logo :(( I about died the first time I saw the One Kings Lane site. Until I realized they are ubiquitous now! Maybe I think I need to reinvent my logo. What do you think?

So funny that you wrote this post today, because I went to the post office this morning to get a parcel with a big white elephant figure in it. I can't wait to get home after work and to open the parcel! Got it from impressionen.de and I love that they call the article 'Coco'... such a statement piece for my living room!
